Some Big News for Me!

Postby tmurph01 » Fri Jul 31, 2009 8:54 am

First off, Brittany and I have set our wedding date. It will be on August 21, 2010. We even have our Ceremony and Reception area reserved. We are going to have it at the Purple Iris in Martinsburg, WV.

We also have a place to live at. Brittany's grandparents have a 3 acre plot of land with a trailer on it on Providence Church Road in Hedgesville, WV. They said we could live there free of charge as long as we pay utilities, fix it up, and bring it out of the 70's.

House has all appliances, oil base-board heat, central air, 4 out buildings, well, septic, and a wood stove. I plan on using the wood stove for heat to save on the cost of oil.. so that works out great.

Here it is. Everything you see is ours, from the land to the buildings.

The outside:

The land:

The interior... we need to buy more bell bottoms and tye-dye shirts before we move in..haha:

The best part:

It does need some work to it. Three of the rooms need the ceilings redone due to water damage. All the ceilings need painted. The wood stove needs a new glass. The outside needs weeds and saplings removed from around the house and porch. The gutters need fixed and added. There are also many smaller things to keep me busy for a while. We are also going to be painting and remodelling the kitchen, bathroom, and master bedroom.

Hopefully I will be in it by mid to late November and Brittany will join me when she graduates in late December. We are also letting a close friend of ours live with us until she graduates in May.

Thanks John, but luckily for you I have a very close-knit network of friends and family who have stepped in and begun helping. Today we managed to reclaim the porch from the weeds, trees, and vines. We also got a very good start on painting the ceilings and remodeling the kitchen.

Thanks Tyler. We are currently re-modelling it so I will try to post some pics of the progress.

Travis,

How's it going? Need more pictures on progress!

Also, looked like a wood burning stove. If you need some wood, I have an infinite (really) supply of beautiful red oak firewood you can have for free.

Actually John, I am in need of firewood. I have enough to get started, but not to last the entire winter. I will definitely be getting in touch with you about the wood!

As for new pics... well I only have 4 right now, but I will snap more tomorrow.

Cleared the weeds from the porch:

Ok, let me know when ready. Also, let me know what length would be ideal for you. I have 6 oak trees already downed and cut to fireplace length (20-22 inches), which might be too long for your wood burning stove. I have another dozen or so trees still standing (that I know of).

Cabinets are going to look great. Porch is definitely clear!

As promised.. more pics that I took this evening.

The Kitchen is about done, just need to add the hardware and do the floor:

The bathroom is almost done, just a few small details left to finish:

More shots of the land. I have really been doing a lot of cleaning up outside as well as tree/shrub trimming. These were taken looking off the porch:

These are just of the property:
Backyard:

Bottom lot looking up towards house:

Side yard goes all the way down to the road:

It's coming along quite nice. It's pretty amazing to look at the before pics and see where we started at. Most of my free time is spent back there working on it since while Brittany is finishing up her last semester at Shepherd. This way she only has to worry about grades and her two internships instead of the house. I'll post more pics as the progress continues.

Wow. What a transformation! The kitchen looks completely different (and much bigger with the white cabinets). Well done!

Count me in, too, Travis, if you need any help.

Looks nice, and it's fortunate that y'all will have a place to live. Normally newlyweds are stuck between a rock and a hard place with finding a home away from home, so to speak. It's always a positive thing to not have to live with the in-laws!

John's post gave me an idea. We should all have a "Help a fellow club member" day. :D

I second this idea: Just post a need or PM us and we'll be there if we can.
