Well, I made it through the Nationals Legends class judging. Out of a possible 5,000 points, I received 4,545, or 90.9%. The judges spent several hours on each car (about 20 of them), including a significant amount of time on a lift. Each judge had a flashlight to examine everything closely. I received a plaque and will be receiving (via email) a detailed list of deficiencies and points deducted for each. I would bet the list contains 40 or so items. Here are three items I know are on the list:
1. Paint. My car has clear coat. In 1969, they didn't use clear coat. No chance I will repaint it.
2. Glass. The car has generic replacement glass. I MAY replace the glass with correct, date coded glass, but that's a risky proposition.
3. Vaccuum line clamps have rounded edges, instead of square edges as would have come from the factory.
Just a few examples to give you a sense of the range of deductions.
All 1st year entrants were within 1% of each other.
You get two more years to come back and show improvements. If you achieve 96% or better, your car is declared a Heritage restoration, a coveted recognition.
